Agartala: Tripura Police have solved the shocking murder of a 28-year-old man, whose body was found hidden in a freezer 112 km from his home—murdered over a love triangle.
Shariful Islam, a resident of Agartala, went missing on June 8. His body was recovered three days later, concealed in a freezer at an ice cream shop in Gandatwisa (formerly Gandacherra), owned by the father of the main accused.
According to West Tripura SP Kiran Kumar, Shariful and Dr. Dibakar Saha (28) were romantically involved—at different times—with the same woman from Agartala’s Chandrapur area. Shariful had recently ended a relationship with the woman, while Dr. Saha had just entered into one. Fearing interference from Shariful, Saha allegedly plotted the murder to remove him from the picture.
On June 8, Shariful was invited to a house in South Indranagar under the pretext of receiving a gift. There, Dr. Saha, with the help of Animesh Yadav and Nabanita Das, allegedly strangled him to death. The body was packed in a large trolley bag and transported the next morning to Gandatwisa.
To conceal the crime, the corpse was stored in a commercial freezer used for ice cream at a shop owned by Saha’s father, Dipak Saha.
Police have arrested six people: Dr. Dibakar Saha, Jaydip Das (20), Nabanita Das (25), Animesh Yadav (21), Dipak Saha (52), and Debika Saha (48), the accused’s mother.
Investigation is ongoing.
