Agartala: A venture of the TATA group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to establish a residential skill training institute for hospitality industry professionals, announced Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, Chairman of the TTAADC Advisory and Reforms Committee and royal scion, on Thursday.
The MoUs were signed and exchanged at a private hotel in Agartala. The residential skill training institute will be set up at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the TTAADC.
Speaking at the event, Debbarman said, “To increase employability of the youth, proper skill development initiatives are needed. I also want to make a humble request to the government of Tripura to invest more in qualitative upgrades to the school curriculum. We have schools, but the existing institutions are not capable of making students job-ready. To secure good jobs, individuals need to acquire the required skills.”
Discussing the institute, which will be managed jointly by TATA STRIVE and the Indian Hotels Company Limited, Debbarman said, “Initially, the institute will accommodate 250 students. A state-of-the-art lab will be set up within a short span of time, and we hope that within four to five months, the institute will be ready for the public.”
The institute, named the Hospitality Skill Development Centre of Excellence, will offer a range of courses including laundry, back office, front office, cooking, and other hotel services, said Ameya Vanjari, Chief Operating Officer of TATA STRIVE. “It is the second such institute in the Northeast after Assam. I encourage people from all sections of society to enrol in these courses and obtain a certificate from a reputed organization. This will help professionals negotiate for better remuneration,” Debbarman added.
He further appealed to Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like GAIL and ONGC to allocate funds under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes to make the course fees more affordable for aspirants from the Northeast.
