Agartala: Tripura has once again achieved the highest ever turnout in the second phase of Lok Sabha polls with 80.32 percent votes polled till 8 PM on Friday. The figures are further expected to increase as polling continued in 20 odd polling stations in the night.
Even as most of the polling parties returned to their base, some officials were yet to wrap up the polling, Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal has said.
Dismissing the allegations of any major poll malpractices, the CEO said, “The polls were by and large peaceful. The voters have come out in large numbers to cast their votes responding to the initiatives undertaken by the Election Commission. I sincerely thank the voters and the political parties who are the major stakeholders of the democratic exercise.”
According to the CEO, at two polling stations, voters boycotted the elections to express their grievances, primarily concerning the poor condition of roads and lack of development in their areas.
“Upon learning about the concerns of the locals, officials attempted to persuade them, but ultimately, they were quite determined with their decision,” said the CEO.
Regarding the voting in those two specific polling stations, the CEO said, the polling stations registered as 41/3 Natonglal Para JB School and 44/5 Sandaimohan Para JB School had a total of 649 and 1,059 eligible voters respectively. Only two votes were cast at 41/3, while 12 votes were recorded at the other station.

To a query on the complaints and its addressal, the senior official said, “If we put together East Tripura and West Tripura, a total of 92 complaints were received and all of them were resolved. In the whole election process of two phases, as many as 26 poll officials were placed under suspension for violating conduct rules.”
Meanwhile, late on Friday night the suspension order of one official of the education department was withdrawn.
