Agartala: Tripura police have detained four Rohingya migrants from the North Tripura district headquarters of Dharmanagar in the early hours of Friday.
Police sources stated that the individuals were apprehended while attempting to board a train bound for Hyderabad. They had intended to leave Tripura via this route, but law enforcement intervened before they could depart.
Following preliminary inquiries, authorities learned that all four individuals had previously resided in various Rohingya camps located in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh.
The detained individuals have been identified as Mohammad Arab (22), Samia (20), Ismatara (17), and Isha (15). According to police reports, they crossed international borders with the assistance of a Bangladeshi border tout identified as Abdullah.
“They have informed the police that they had paid Rs 30,000 per person to the border tout who facilitated their border crossing. Some of them sold the assistance they received from the government and other foreign agencies to ensure that the fee charged by the border touts could be amassed,” a senior police official disclosed.
Upon their arrest, the minor girls among the group were visibly distressed, breaking into tears. They informed the police that their intention in traveling to Hyderabad was to seek employment opportunities. Some of their relatives had already established residency in Hyderabad, prompting the group to plan their journey with hopes of finding work there.
