Zaben Murry, the founder of Zaben Murry Designs, began his entrepreneurial journey with a simple idea—creating and selling earrings online. What started as a passion-driven hobby soon evolved into a business that blends creativity with cultural expression. From marketing his handmade jewellery through social media platforms like Instagram, Zaben slowly built his customer base, starting with friends and family, before expanding to a broader audience.

In 2022, Zaben opened his own shop, a humble yet significant step forward in his entrepreneurial journey. Though his primary sales channel remains Instagram, where his products have gained substantial attention, Zaben’s first sale on Facebook was a single pair of earrings, a reminder of his modest beginnings.

Zaben’s story is one of resilience and innovation. He focuses on providing his customers with high-quality jewellery that embodies style, creativity, and the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland. His journey is now inspiring other aspiring entrepreneurs in the region to follow their dreams and turn their talents into successful businesses.

Impulse Social Enterprises, through its Impulse Empower initiative, continues to capture and showcase stories like Zaben’s. The series underscores how small- and medium-sized businesses are vital to local economic development, job creation, and preventing unsafe migration and exploitation. By promoting entrepreneurship in the region, the initiative is helping build a resilient market capable of fostering sustainable growth.

The documentary on Zaben Murry was directed by Lewis Levent Özcan, a filmmaker and Impulse Empower Incubation Hub Entrepreneur in Residence. Levent travelled across Northeast India and North Bengal to document the stories of entrepreneurs driving positive change in their communities. His work, produced by Impulse NGO Network and Gezmek Films, is part of a larger mission to bring attention to systems change in the region, with support from Meta India.

Hasina Kharbhih, founder of Impulse NGO Network and producer of the series, emphasises the importance of these stories in highlighting the role of entrepreneurship in social and economic development. The series is further supported by state partners like Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre in Dimapur and media partners such as Impulse Model Press Lab and EastMojo.

By sharing stories like Zaben’s, Impulse Empower is not only providing a platform for local entrepreneurs but also reinforcing the critical role they play in building sustainable economies and resilient communities across the Northeast.
