Impulse Social Enterprises, through its initiative Impulse Empower, has recently highlighted the entrepreneurial journey of Limhathung B Yanthan, the founder of Oyan Foods, in its latest documentary series. Directed by Lewis Levent Özcan, the series captures the stories of entrepreneurs who are driving local economic development and promoting cultural heritage across Northeast India and North Bengal. Limhathung, a resident of Nagaland, established Oyan Foods in September 2021 with a mission to bring the authentic taste of his region to a wider audience through his locally sourced and produced food products.

Oyan Foods, under the leadership of Limhathung, specialises in producing pickles, particularly chutneys, which are sold in affordable sachets. With a vision to create a product that would be accessible to the masses, Limhathung priced his chutneys at just Rs 10 per sachet, making them available at local paan shops. This strategy was designed to ensure that his products could be enjoyed by a broad customer base, reflecting his commitment to offering quality food at a reasonable price.

Unlike many modern businesses, Limhathung has chosen not to rely on social media for marketing his products. Aware that his target market may not be highly active online, he focuses instead on traditional sales methods that better suit his customer base. This approach has proven effective in reaching those who might not otherwise have access to locally produced and culturally significant food products.

The documentary by Impulse Empower not only showcases the success of Oyan Foods but also underscores the broader impact of small and medium-sized enterprises in fostering economic resilience in the region. Supported by Meta, this initiative is part of a larger effort by Impulse NGO Network to prevent unsafe migration and exploitation by creating sustainable job opportunities in the local economy.

Through his work with Oyan Foods, Limhathung is not only promoting the unique flavours of Nagaland but also demonstrating how small businesses can make a significant difference in their communities.
