Kohima: Mechievilie Yashü, hailing from Dihoma village in Kohima district, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming Nagaland’s first football referee to qualify as a national referee under the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
His accomplishment comes after successfully clearing the AIFF Level 5 exam, results of which were announced on June 16.
In a commendation letter addressed to the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Suresh Srinivasan, Director of State Referees, conveyed AIFF’s pleasure in informing that Mechievilie Yashü, with referee registration number RIN-120013, has attained the status of National Referee (Level 5).
Yashü completed all four required examinations—Fitness, Theory, Practical, and Viva—with distinction, marking a significant achievement in his career.
The exams for Level 5 referees and assistant referees were conducted from April 15 to 17, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Out of over 64 candidates nationwide who participated in the referee exam, only 25 emerged successful, while 90 candidates appeared for the assistant referee exam, with 28 passing.
With his new qualification, Yashü is now eligible to officiate at various national-level tournaments held across the country, marking a pivotal step in his referee career.
