Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay defended the success of the Connect to CM initiative of the state government, launched on October 14, 2025.
Addressing the Sikkim Legislative Assembly session on March 26, Golay shared, “The Connect to CM initiative has been the voice for the voiceless, wherein till March 24, the initiative had received around 1,22,327 calls, of which 18,069 calls were attended.
From these attended calls, we were able to track 479 calls that were of genuine Below Poverty Line concerns. 210 such BPL family- or individual-related concerns have been successfully addressed.”
The 210 successful interventions include eight medical emergency and aid cases, 58 requests for housing through the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana, and 75 individuals selected for various employment opportunities where the genuine ‘One Family One Job’ initiative had not been fulfilled.
Twenty small businesses were given support, while 12 initiatives were undertaken for the development and maintenance of existing temples, churches and monasteries, which were part of discretionary grants.
Thirty-two students were selected for the Chief Minister’s Education Scheme, and five individuals who were landless were allotted land, taking the total to 210 successful interventions under the Connect to CM initiative.
During the Assembly session, many legislators lauded the Connect to CM initiative.
In the health sector, the State government has increased the budget for pharmacy or medical supplies in hospitals from Rs 13 crore currently to Rs 40 crore for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
The Chief Minister further added that under the Mero Dabai Dokan initiative, a 15 per cent annual increase will be implemented for medical supplies in the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted various other programmes of the state government, including the widespread demand for asphalting or road carpeting across 572 kilometres of roads spread over 31 constituencies in the state.
However, Golay asserted that the current budget allocation does not include any new road construction. Yet, 388 kilometres of ongoing road construction connecting 96 villages in the state are underway under Central government initiatives.
