Sikkim: Chamling to contest two seats for Assembly polls
Pawan Kumar Chamling

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, also the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) president, has pledged significant development in West Sikkim through tourism and industrialization initiatives, urging local voters to secure victories for the SDF across all eight constituencies in the region.

Addressing a public meeting for the Yuksam-Tashiding constituency at Yuksam helipad, Chamling emphasized the SDF’s commitment to extensive development projects in West Sikkim, particularly in the tourism sector. He urged voters to elect SDF candidates in all constituencies to ensure comprehensive progress for the region.

Chamling concluded his campaign in seven constituencies of Soreng and Gyalshing districts within three days, with the final West Sikkim constituency, Zoom-Salghari, scheduled for coverage on Thursday. He outlined various SDF projects and programs for the region during his campaign speeches, focusing on tourism promotion and economic growth.

As part of the tourism promotion plans for West Sikkim, Chamling promised to establish the Phuntsog Namgyal World History & Heritage Centre in Yuksam, the ancient capital where Phuntsog Namgyal was crowned as the first Chogyal of Sikkim. Additionally, he pledged to develop Chewabhanjyang as an international tourism destination and transform West Sikkim into a new industrial zone.

Chamling asserted that these development initiatives would create numerous job and business opportunities, positioning West Sikkim as the most developed region in the state. He appealed to voters not to let Sikkim fall into the wrong hands and urged them to vote for the SDF for the rule of Sikkimese in Sikkim.

Expressing confidence in the SDF’s return to power in 2024, Chamling highlighted the support of “silent voters,” estimated to be 30-40 percent, who are inclined towards the SDF. He emphasized that these silent voters, primarily grassroots-level individuals, are eagerly waiting to cast their votes for the SDF on election day.

Chamling reiterated his commitment to addressing incidents of violence and assaults against the people and SDF workers. He assured that once the SDF forms the government, strong legal action would be taken against perpetrators to ensure justice for the affected individuals.

With Chamling’s reassurances and promises of development, the SDF aims to secure victory in West Sikkim and continue its efforts to serve the interests of the people of Sikkim.
