Imphal: In yet another welcoming news, India’s very first Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is all set to attend the upcoming state-level Sangai Festival in Manipur on November 30.
Known for her elegance and style, the ‘Main Hoon Na’ actress will walk the ramp for designer Robert Naorem’s show as the showstopper on the closing ceremony of the 11th edition of the Sangai Festival 2022 at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre in Imphal.
Naorem shared the news with EastMojo on the sidelines of the curtain raiser event for the Sangai Festival on Tuesday.
“The news hasn’t been made public yet. But yes, we are having Sushmita Sen on the closing ceremony of the Sangai Festival at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre. She will be walking as the showstopper for me,” Naorem told EastMojo.
Sushmita Sen coming all the way from Mumbai and walking for Sangai Festival to promote our handloom and textiles industry is a very big deal, Naorem said.
“It is also one of my biggest dreams to have Sushmita Sen walk the ramp at Sangai Festival here in Manipur,” said the proud designer whose work is known for the intricacies of handloom textiles and indigenous designs of Manipur.
This time, former Miss Universe Lara Dutta Bhupathi will also make her maiden visit to the northeast state to attend the Sangai Festival on November 26 in Churachandpur district.
She will also be be showstopper for Naorem’s show as part of the Sangai Festival 2022 celebration.
“I am also happy to announce that we will be having former Miss Universe and actress Lara Dutta will, who will be walking as the showstopper for the Sangai Festival to promote our tourism festival at Churachandpur on November 26,” said Naorem.
“They are very big names in the glamour industry of India and being national and international figures, I hope wearing our traditional costume will have a huge impact in terms of promotion of handloom and textiles industry of Manipur across the globe,” he said.
The state-level Sangai Festival 2022, one of the biggest festivals in the northeast region, is scheduled between November 20 to November 30 across various venues in the state.
