Mizoram rolls out India’s first digital Census with Guv leading enumeration

Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Thursday formally marked the commencement of the intensive houselisting and housing census operations under the Census of India 2027 at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl, as the state joined the nationwide exercise.

Addressing officials, the Governor urged census field functionaries to carry out their duties with dedication and sincerity, ensuring that no household is left out. He emphasised the need to clearly explain the process to those who may face difficulty, so that every individual and household is properly enumerated. Calling it India’s first digital Census, he expressed confidence in its successful completion and appealed to the public to cooperate with enumerators.

During the event, enumerator H. Lalremruati entered the required details using the Self Enumeration ID generated from the Governor’s self-enumeration conducted on April 7, formally completing his houselisting and housing census.

Senior officials present included Municipal Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Joseph H. Lalramsanga and Additional Secretary, GAD and Additional State Nodal Officer Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, along with other officials from the Directorate of Census Operations.

The Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, houselisting and housing census, began on April 1, 2026. The second phase, population enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027. Self-enumeration was carried out nationwide from April 1 to April 15, while houselisting operations will continue from April 16 to May 15.

Following the Governor, Chief Minister Lalduhoma was also enumerated at his office after completing self-enumeration earlier this month. Home Minister K. Sapdanga and PWD Minister Vanlalhlana were similarly enumerated at their respective residences in the presence of senior officials.

The government has urged residents to provide accurate information to enumerators during house-to-house visits to ensure the smooth conduct of the Census.
