The “One Station One Product” (OSOP) initiative is gaining momentum under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), with 180 operational outlets across its network. These outlets, established at 132 railway stations, are transforming travel hubs into thriving marketplaces for local artisans and vendors, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region while fostering economic empowerment.
OSOP outlets offer train passengers an opportunity to experience and purchase an array of local handicrafts, handloom items, and handmade artefacts during their journeys. These stalls serve as a window into the region’s heritage, featuring products such as Assamese pithas, traditional Gamosas, indigenous attire, bamboo and cane crafts, and Darjeeling tea. Additionally, locally made designer accessories like bangles, necklaces, and earrings, as well as food items, are displayed, bringing diverse cultural elements to the forefront.
The initiative aligns with the #Vocal4Local campaign, providing artisans a platform to market their products while preserving traditional crafts. Beyond economic benefits, OSOP outlets are becoming a catalyst for cultural preservation and community empowerment.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,
