General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, carried out an extensive inspection at Lumding today, evaluating the operational efficiency, infrastructure development, and overall performance of the railway network in the division. Senior officials from the NFR headquarters and Lumding division accompanied Shrivastava during the inspection.
The visit commenced with an inspection of the 1st Battalion of the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) base at Lumding, where the GM assessed the preparedness of the security forces to address any potential threats. This was followed by a detailed review of the Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) shed and the pit line at Lumding railway station, where Shrivastava inspected a newly introduced DEMU train sporting a new colour scheme. The updated design is expected to significantly reduce maintenance time.
During his visit, Shrivastava interacted with the Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) team, who are responsible for testing rails and welds, and engaged in discussions with the Permanent Way (P. Way) gang, who manage turnout maintenance. This interaction underscored the importance of maintaining track infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient train operations.

Following the inspection, Shrivastava convened a meeting with divisional officers at the Divisional Railway Manager’s (DRM) office, where he reviewed the division’s overall performance. He urged staff members to uphold the highest standards of service and safety. Additionally, he inspected the progress of ongoing developmental works at Lumding Station, which include the Amrit Station initiative, aimed at enhancing passenger amenities and improving station infrastructure.
The day concluded with a rear window trailing inspection of the Lumding-Hojai section, during which Shrivastava assessed the track conditions and the operational performance of the section. This hands-on inspection reflects NFR’s commitment to maintaining operational excellence and improving service quality for passengers.
