Aizawl: Lunglei District Bawrhsap R. Lalṭhazuala on Friday convened a crucial meeting with representatives from the District Administration, Police, Young Mizo Association (YMA), and Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) to discuss the ongoing tensions affecting the Chakma community in the region.
The meeting, held in Lalṭhazuala’s office, was attended by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lunglei, Additional DC, Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Beihmataosa, District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) of Lunglei, as well as the presidents of the Lunglei Sub-Headquarters YMA and Lunglei Headquarters MZP.
Joining remotely via Google Meet were the SDO (Civil) and SDPO of Tlabung, Khawthlangtuipui Group YMA president, and Tlabung Sub-Headquarters MZP president.
The key focus of the meeting was the recent tensions in Borapansury, Lawngtlai District. Lalṭhazuala stressed the need for collaboration between YMA and MZP to resolve issues affecting the Chakma community and to prevent further escalation of the situation.
SP K. Beihmataosa provided an update on the police’s efforts, stating that the situation remains under control, with continuous monitoring. The SDO (Civil) and SDPO of Tlabung also briefed the meeting on the measures being implemented to address community concerns.
The DC of Lunglei urged the Lunglei Headquarters MZP and Khawthlangtuipui Group YMA to retract their directives restricting the movement of Chakmas, as legal measures had already been initiated.
In response, the representatives from the YMA and MZP stated that they would discuss the matter with their respective committees and respond to the DC’s request.
