The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has embarked on an initiative to enhance safety and efficiency in train operations by installing Dual Gate Phones at Level Crossing (LC) gates throughout its network. This new system, which supplements the existing gate phones, aims to mitigate the duration of gate phone failures that often cause operational issues. By facilitating seamless communication between gatemen and station masters, the initiative seeks to minimise punctuality losses and bolster safety measures.
Currently, 1,030 out of the 1,447 Level Crossing gates in the NFR region have been equipped with Dual Gate Phones. Additionally, non-interlocked Level Crossing gates have been outfitted with voice recording facilities. This measure is a testament to NFR’s dedication to enhancing railway efficiency and passenger safety.
The division-wise implementation includes 40 LC gates in the Katihar division, 253 gates in the Alipurduar Division, 290 gates in the Rangiya Division, 163 gates in the Lumding division, and 284 gates in the Tinsukia division, all of which have already been equipped with Dual Gate Phones.
