Guwahati, Assam: In a significant move to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) have joined hands to establish a network of public charging stations across the country.

The strategic partnership leverages TPEM’s insights gained from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads and HPCL’s extensive fuel station network to set up charging stations at locations frequently visited by EV owners. By doing so, the collaboration aims to enhance the customer experience and encourage more people to embrace electric mobility.

Tata Motors, the market leader in EVs in India with a share of over 68%, and HPCL, with its nationwide network of over 21,500 fuel stations, have entered into a partnership to establish public EV charging stations.
The collaboration will leverage TPEM’s insights into EV usage and HPCL’s widespread network to set up chargers at places with higher charging demand, reducing range anxiety among EV customers.
Both companies are exploring the introduction of a convenient payment system through a co-branded RFID card, further enhancing the charging experience for EV owners.

The partnership aligns with India’s commitment to sustainable development and will play a crucial role in promoting the use of electric vehicles in the country.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said, “As the adoption of EVs increases, the availability of widespread and dependable charging infrastructure will play a crucial role in making EVs mainstream in India. This strategic partnership with HPCL emphasizes our dedication to advancing India’s EV ecosystem, where the growth of charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role. This collaboration is essential for facilitating infrastructure development to support the expanding EV customer base. Leveraging TPEM’s extensive insights into EV usage and HPCL’s extensive nationwide network, this partnership has the potential to transform the charging infrastructure landscape in the country.”
Debashis Chakraverty, Chief General Manager, Retail Strategy & BD, HPCL, added, “HPCL, with its 21000+ fuel stations, has entered into an alliance with Tata Motors, which commands a 68% market share in the Indian EV market. Through this alliance, HPCL shall leverage Tata Motors’ vehicle base to enable our strategic expansion in EV Charging infrastructure at places with higher charging demand and will help in reducing range anxiety of EV customers.”

The partnership between TPEM and HPCL is a significant step towards establishing a robust charging infrastructure for EVs in India. By combining TPEM’s expertise in EV technology and HPCL’s extensive network, the collaboration aims to address one of the key challenges hindering the widespread adoption of EVs – the lack of convenient and reliable charging stations. This initiative is expected to create new opportunities for EV owners and provide them with a hassle-free charging experience, ultimately contributing to the growth of the EV market in India.
