Kohima: An alleged assault on a minor girl in Yanthamo village under Wokha, Nagaland, has sparked protests in the district.
Protesters gathered outside the Police Station in Wokha on Thursday, demanding justice for the minor.
Slogans such as “We want justice”, “we want fair justice”, and so on were raised during the protest.
The 9-year-old was suspected to be assaulted by her custodian. The accused has been identified as one Rosemary Kikon (39).
A case has been registered with the police under relevant sections of the law.
The incident, reportedly emerging on Wednesday, revealed photos online depicting the child with marks on her back, hand, and with unevenly trimmed hair.

Meanwhile, the Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU) condemned the “physical abuse and mental harassment” meted upon a minor who is a bonafide member of the Union.
They termed the act as “barbaric and heinous” and that such ruthless and insane behaviour, targeting a minor girl is totally intolerable.

While expressing their solidarity, they expressed their discontentment on how the minor was abused and tortured on the pretext of giving a better life.
The Union thanked the Wokha Child Welfare Committee and Wokha Police for their swift action and urged the law enforcing agencies to deliver justice and punish the culprit according to the law.
