The Sikh community has once again stepped up to help humanity as they served hot meal to hundreds of lorries stranded in United Kingdom’s Kent County, after the closure of French border.
The volunteers of Gravesend Gurdwara put together a massive order of 800 free hot meals at the Gurudwara’s Langer kitchen in under three hours. They 500 chickpea curries and 300 mushroom and pasta dishes.
The volunteers are working with Sikh humanitarian relief charity Khalsa Aid. They came to the aid of lorry drivers who are currently trapped due to the closure of the border at Dover.
Jagdev Singh Virdee, spokesperson for the Guru Nanak Darbar, said that the Khalsa Aid got in touch with them and collected the food. Khalsa Aid founder Ravinder Singh arranged to pick up the meals from the Gravesend Gurdwara and delivered them to the truckers with the help of a Kent Police escort.
