Guwahati: In a joint operation by the Indian army and Assam Rifles, one of the main arms and ammunition supplier of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) along the Assam-Nagaland border area was arrested from the outskirts of Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district on Wednesday.

The person, identified as Sajid Ali, is a resident of Namti Chariali in Sivasagar, was apprehended along with weapon and live ammunition.

The joint operation was based on confirmed input that the individual was moving towards Naharkatia to deliver arms and ammunition to someone. He fell into the trap of security forces, which was a result of relentless pursuit over the past two months.

“Not only is he the pivotal person involved in the smuggling of arms & ammunition, he is also involved in providing assistance to the cadres and various illegal activities for NSCN- K in the border areas of Assam & Nagaland,” said a statement.

The apprehended insurgent and recoveries have been handed over to Naharkatia Police for further investigation.
