Put into bat first after losing the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore did not get off to a very good start. Jason Holder removed both the openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal cheaply in his first two overs reducing Royal Challengers to 15/2 inside four overs.
Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers did some repair job for the Royal Challengers with a run-a-ball partnership of 41 runs for the third wicket.
Just as the partnership was seeming to settle down for the RCB, they lost two back-to-back wickets in the 11th over in the form of Aaron Finch(32 off 30) who picked out Abdul Samad in the deep off Shahbaz Nadeem’s bowling and Moeen Ali who was runout in a free hit just two deliveries later, leaving RCB in a spot of bother with 62/4 on the board.
AB de Villiers played a fighting knock as he kept losing partners at the other end, before he was dismissed for 55 off 43 with a beautiful yorker from T Natarajan that crashed into AB’s middle stump in the 18th over.
Hit by some early setbacks in the innings, the Royal Challengers Bangalore never seemed to recover as their innings didn’t pick up the momentum and eventually they managed to put up just 131/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
Coming out to chase a low total, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their new opener Srivats Goswami for a duck in the very first over off Mohammed Siraj.
David Warner and Manish Pandey added 41 runs off 30 balls for the second wicket, before it was Siraj again who broke the partnership dismissing the SRH skipper in the last over of powerplay.
Manish Pandey looked good for his brief stay of 21-ball-24, but was dismissed by Adam Zampa with AB de Villiers taking a very good low catch behind the stumps in the ninth over.
An unbeaten 55-run-partnership off 47 balls for the fifth wicket between Kane Williamson and Jason Holder made sure the Sunrisers Hyderabad chase down the total with no further hiccups with six wickets to spare.
Kane Williamson played a perfectly paced innings under the circumstances as he scored a match-winning 50* off 44 taking his team to the Qualifier 2 of the IPL.
Sunrisers Hyderbad will now take on Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2 on Sunday.
