President Donald Trump has falsely claimed that he has already won the 2020 US elections and asked for voting and counting to be stopped.
This premature announcement of winning, while millions of votes are still being counted in key states has led to a backlash. Also, Trump’s statement could mount to legal challenge.
In response, Democratic candidate Joe Biden tweeted, “It’s not my place or Donald Trump’s place to declare the winner of this election. It’s the voters’ place.”

The former US vice-president added, “We feel good about where we are. We believe we are on track to win this election.”
The Associated Press clarified that it is not calling the presidential race yet, “because neither candidate has secured the 270 electoral college votes needed to claim victory.”
Meanwhile, folks on Twitter are echoing for all votes to be counted.
Senator Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “Donald Trump’s premature claims of victory are illegitimate, dangerous, and authoritarian. Count the votes. Respect the results.”

Rep Jim McGovern highlighted, “There is no counting ballots after the election is over because the election is not over until ALL legal ballots are counted.”
The ballot count for high powered US Presidential elections is still underway, as millions of mail-in ballots are being counted.
