Review of Happy Birthday messages by NE leaders to the Prime Minister

Gone are the days when leaders would line up outside 7 Race Course Road, outdoing each other with bouquets and garlands to wish their beloved Prime Minister. Even before the pandemic, Twitter had already became the space for leaders to wishing each happy birthday. No one buys Archies cards these days.

The biggest birthday of the year is here so we looked at how leaders of the northeast wished their beloved leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

We start off with sports minister, Kiren Rijiju, who is also social media star one of the most followed leaders in India. Along expected lines he has a wonderful video message well shot and delivered to perfection. He takes extreme care to get everything right. “The best part of Modiji’s leadership is that he provides very simple yet precise points of action,” He says and connects his leadership to steps taken to develop sports in the country.

The chief minister of Mizoram sent his message in hindi. There are no fancy graphics just pictures of him smiling and the PM looking very stern. The social media team has attempted a balance with another picture of the prime minister similing but he is seated alone. For those who can’t read hindi the message translates, “Happy birthday to the prime minister of India Narendra Modiji.” The other half is a little tough to translate.

The chief minister of Arunachal Pema Khandu who is recovering from COVID-19 is good with his hindi. His message is complimanted with a creative which is not Twitter-friendly because you have to click it to reveal it. He invokes Lord buddha in his birthday message, “Pray to Lord Buddha, stay healthy, have longevity and lead India for years, leading the country towards the ultimate glory.”

The Assamese chief minister seems to have got it creative right because the picture of the prime minister is clearly visible and you dont need to click it to reveal it. He is known to be straight forward and so is his message in english.

Meghalaya CM, Conrad Sangma’s creative team also needs to make Twitter friendly images, this one is also a click to reveal. In his message he talks about the PM’s bold leadership and ‘appreciates’ his commitment towards taking India forward into new frontiers.

Next is the most sought after leader in the northeast, he is the prime minister’s troubleshooter when it comes to matters of the east. Assams health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma does a double one in english and the other in hindi. The corona fighter ‘rededicated’ himself to defeat the virus in his birthday greetings.

The Manipur CM has gone simple with a message and a lovely picture, where both leaders are smiling. However, both leaders are looking at different cameras. And we know who knows where the right cameras are.

The Nagaland Chief minister is known for some wonderful creatives on his Twitter handle. For his birthday message to the PM there are none. He has chosen to go with a simple bold message on vision, leadership and global position of India.

The chief minister of Tripura loves warm colours and is reflected in the birthday creative. He invokes “Maa Tripursundari” in requesting her to bestow and give the PM strength to work hard for “Maa Bharti”.

Till the filing of this report Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), had not wished the prime minister on his Twitter handle. His last message is to Arunachal CM, “Prayers for his speedy recovery and best of health.” Would request his social media team to look into the issue
