Aizawl: Mizoram is all set to host the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup and Grand Festival at Serchhip town, 90 km from state capital Aizawl, from February 10 to 16 next year.
Under the Federation Aeronautics Internationale (FAI), the pre-World Cup was held in 2018 at the same place where paragliders from over nine countries took part in the event.
Paragliding was first introduced in Mizoram by paragliders from Japan, Switzerland and Korea in October 2008 where they held test flights at Lunglei and Aizawl.
The Mizoram Aerosports Association was later established in 2010 from where many paragliders have passed out.
At the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup 2020, 130 paragliders from different countries will compete, with 20 officials.
The organising committee under the chairmanship of state sports minister Robert Romawia Royte has established four sub-committees for the event — logistics committee, programme committee, promotional committee and infrastructure committee.
