Tinsukia: A third-semester student of Dibrugarh University in Assam’s Dibrugarh district allegedly ended her life in her hostel room inside the university campus, the police said on Tuesday.
Dibrugarh superintendent of police Gautam Bora said the student had gone to her hostel room at 11 pm on Monday night. “As she did not show up [the next day], her friends informed the hostel warden, who in turn took the help of a stool and peeped through the ventilator and found her…”
“A case has been registered and the body was shifted to a government hospital for autopsy,” he added.

The police later found a note written partially in Assamese in which she mentioned, “Mom and Papa am sorry. I am doing this since I hurt you (loosely translated)… no one is involved.”

It seems she regretted hurting her parents and took the extreme step, Bora added.
Talking to media persons, the hostel warden said, “The deceased, who hailed from upper Assam, was a student of English department. She was a bright student and had won the title ‘Miss English Department’ and gold medal winner in inter-college weightlifting.”
She was also a taekwondo player.
“Her hostel mates informed me around 2 pm today that the student’s room is locked from inside and they haven’t seen her since morning,” the warden said, adding, she along with another woman then went to check her room. When the girl did not respond, we peeped in through the ventilator, and immediately informed the police.
According to her hostel mates she was completely normal until yesterday while they had dinner together, said the warden. “She was also present during the attendance at 10.00 pm and was looking normal. Even her head of the department said that she was a bright student and a joyful girl,” the warden said.
Her death has come as a shock for all of us, she added.
