In its ongoing efforts to ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities across the northeastern region, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully unloaded 1024 freight-carrying rakes during the month of August 2024. This significant milestone highlights NFR’s dedication to supporting the distribution of goods to every corner of the states under its jurisdiction.
The commodities transported included a wide range of items such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertiliser, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, and tankers. These were unloaded at various goods sheds across the region, helping to maintain a stable supply chain.
A total of 589 freight rakes were unloaded in Assam during the month, of which 291 carried essential commodities. Tripura received 61 rakes, while 17 rakes were unloaded in Nagaland, 10 in Arunachal Pradesh, one in Manipur, and three in Mizoram.
Outside the northeastern states, NFR also facilitated the unloading of 204 freight rakes in West Bengal and 139 in Bihar, demonstrating its extensive reach in freight transportation within its operational zone.

These upgrades have enabled faster inward and outward transportation, reducing the turnaround time for goods. Additionally, close monitoring at various levels of operation has played a crucial role in increasing the overall unloading efficiency.
