Mizoram Congress President Lal Thanzara, speaking at a session at the Congress Party headquarters, highlighted the party’s pivotal role in Mizoram’s development. He reminded the audience that it was Congress that secured Mizoram’s District Council, Union Territory status, and eventual statehood, lifting the state to a level on par with others after 20 years of turmoil.

Thanzara took a jab at the former ruling party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), for failing to deliver on its promise to turn Mizoram into the “Switzerland of the East,” instead leaving it as the “Bangladesh of the South.”

He questioned Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s recent focus on Myanmar while neglecting local issues, such as removing names from ration card systems in Jampui Hills. “Is this the handholding policy he promised?” Thanzara asked.

Thanzara also criticized the Chief Minister for not keeping his promise that ministers and MLAs wouldn’t refurbish their homes, saying, “They are doing so on a large scale, which could explain the hike in oil prices. Our financial state is critical, like a patient on a ventilator.”

He referenced a missionary’s remarks linking the Chief Minister’s attendance at Mukesh Ambani’s wedding, which featured Hindu symbols, to the state’s worsening condition.
