The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) has sanctioned the commissioning of the newly laid 23.242 km railway line between Pawakhali and Thakurganj stations of the Araria-Galgalia New Line Project, following a statutory inspection on 12th June 2024. This section falls under the Katihar Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway.
The newly constructed broad-gauge line aims to strengthen the existing railway network in the ‘chicken neck’ region and improve the overall efficiency of railway operations. It is expected to enhance freight and passenger traffic through this route towards the Northeast region.
The Araria-Galgalia New Line Project spans 110.75 km, with the newly opened 23.242 km section running from Pawakhali station to Thakurganj station via Kadogaon Halt and Bhogdabar Halt. The project covers the eastern part of Bihar and is anticipated to decongest existing sections, ensuring smoother train services between Pawakhali and Thakurganj.
This initiative has generated significant employment opportunities in the nearby areas and is expected to facilitate the movement of more trains, boosting the socio-economic growth of the region. The project is also predicted to improve the local economic scenario by saving fuel, reducing transportation costs, and cutting travel time, making goods transportation cheaper.
