Agartala: Biplab Kumar Deb, the BJP’s candidate for West Tripura, launched a scathing attack on the Congress for its silence regarding its governance between 1988 and 1993 in Tripura.
“They never speak about that period. My rival candidate, Asish Saha, frequently lectures on democracy but conveniently avoids addressing his party’s actions during its tenure in Tripura. Their silence speaks volumes about their misdeeds and lack of confidence,” stated Deb during an election rally held at the Banamalipur constituency, which he represented in the state assembly while serving as Chief Minister.
In addition to Deb, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the leader of Tipra Motha Party, Mayor Dipak Majumder, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Minister Sushanta Chouwdhury, and others addressed the rally.
Deb held the CPIM and Congress responsible for the prolonged armed rebellion in Tripura, asserting, “NLFT and ATTF were two major terror outfits that engaged in violence, kidnappings, and murders during the tenures of these two parties. The Congress party supported NLFT, while CPIM aided the growth of ATTF. They should be held accountable for the killings perpetrated by these terror outfits.”
Addressing the crowd, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman remarked, “Leaders of Congress and CPIM prioritize self-interest over serving the people. During CPIM’s 25-year rule, the impoverished Tiprasa community was deprived of essential resources. The Home Minister of the country has publicly promised to address our issues, which is why we have aligned with the government. There has been no clandestine agreement with the BJP for power. Today, I have advocated for the establishment of a Central University in tribal areas. This university would provide better educational opportunities for students from my community.”
Debbarman further alleged that both CPIM and Congress sought his support without offering any assurances in return. “Neither Congress nor CPIM were willing to provide any commitments in writing. I cannot support any political party without assurances,” he added.
