The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved several milestones in the financial year 2023-24, including its best-ever POL loading of 515 rakes, a 32% growth in maize loading, and the transportation of essential commodities to Manipur during a law-and-order situation.
NFR’s relentless efforts resulted in carrying more tonnage despite limited line capacity, with a whopping number of 453 Bogie Covered Wagons (BCNHL) rakes released in just three months. The railway transporter also improved system efficiency by starting Closed Circuit rakes examination of BCNHL rakes at New Guwahati, reducing the movement of invalid empty rakes.
As a result of NFR’s continuous efforts, the highest-ever inward traffic of 35.30 million tonnes was achieved during FY 2023-24, recording a growth of 6.9% compared to the previous financial year.
NFR is rapidly progressing towards accomplishing 100% electrification across the zone. During 2023-24, 921.62 Route Kilometer and 1279.74 Track Kilometer have been electrified, bringing the cumulative electrification over NFR to 2583 Route Kilometer and 4485 Track Kilometer, which is 61% of its total Kilometer.
In terms of passenger services, NFR introduced 11 new trains and converted 11 conventional trains to modern Linke Hofmann Busch rakes. To provide better travel experience, 34 pairs of Mail Express & Passenger trains were provided additional stoppages at 35 stations, and 151 coaches were permanently augmented in 25 pairs (62 rakes) of Mail Express trains to create additional berths for waiting listed passengers.
