The first of the 11 ammunitions barges, which is to be used for the transportation of ammunition and other supplies to Indian Navy ships, has been delivered at the naval dockyard in Mumbai.
The delivery of the barge, named LSAM 18, was taken place on March 28. It was built by MSME Shipyard, M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane for the Indian Navy. The barges are indigenous and were designed and built in accordance with the relevant naval rules and regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping.
The contract for the building of 11 barges was signed between the Ministry of Defense and M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd on March 5. The barges will be used for the transportation, embarking and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to Indian Navy ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours. This will strengthen the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy and facilitate the delivery of supplies to ships in a timely manner.
