Kohima: The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW), Nagaland, has issued a clarification regarding the implementation of its notification prohibiting the manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.
The clarification was issued in pursuance of Notification No. DHFW-21/FSSA/3/2023-24/261-74 dated June 2, 2026, to remove any ambiguity surrounding its interpretation and enforcement.
According to the department, the prohibition came into effect on June 2, 2026, and will remain in force for a period of one year until June 1, 2027.
The department further clarified that the ban specifically applies to food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.

To ensure effective implementation, Food Safety Officials have been directed to enforce the prohibition within their respective jurisdictions in coordination with the district administration and police authorities.
The clarification comes amid efforts by the state government to strengthen food safety measures and curb the consumption and sale of products containing harmful substances.
