Nagaland: Narcotics worth Rs 36.57 crore destroyed in Kohima

Kohima: The Drug Disposal Committee for State Level Police Stations at Police Headquarters carried out the disposal of seized Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) at the Kohima dumping site in Meriema on Saturday.

As per an official communication, the seized substances had been duly confiscated by the Court of the Special Judge (NDPS), Kohima.

According to Superintendent of Police (Narcotics & Prohibition) and member of the Drug Disposal Committee, Poolicharla Ramanaiah, the committee approved the destruction of narcotics linked to 24 cases under the NDPS Act.

The destroyed substances included 8 kg of heroin, 31 kg of opium, 370 kg of ganja, and other substances under the NDPS Act, including tramadol and nitrazepam. The total estimated value of the seized drugs was stated to be Rs 36.57 crore.

Ramanaiah said the disposal was carried out after the committee verified the court orders, conducted physical verification of the seized substances, and completed the required logistical arrangements in accordance with prescribed procedures.

The destruction process was conducted in the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID) and chairman of the Drug Disposal Committee, T. Chumrenthung; Superintendent of Police (Crime) and committee member, Dr. Mhalo Ezung; EAC Headquarters and magistrate, Kwriethozo; Assistant Director of Kripa Foundation, Khyuchamo P Ezung; and Dobasi Keduoneilie.
