Manipur: Two Myanmarese arrested for alleged cross-border burglary

Kamjong: Two youths from Myanmar were reportedly arrested by security forces in Huimin Thana village along the India–Myanmar border in Manipur’s Kamjong district on Saturday, in an incident that has renewed concerns over cross-border security.

According to local sources, a joint team of the police, the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Assam Rifles apprehended the two Myanmarese nationals near Border Pillar No. 102 while they were allegedly attempting to commit burglary in the border village.

Police sources said the house of Danny Chithung in Huimin Thana was allegedly broken into and ransacked by the suspects. However, local residents reportedly raised an alarm, prompting swift intervention by the security forces, who arrested the duo.

Huimin Thana is located in Kamjong district along the India–Myanmar border near Border Pillar No. 102.

Speaking on the incident, Chithung alleged that the burglary reflected “clear signs of foreign aggression” along the border.

He also criticised recent remarks by Konthoujam Govindas, who had reportedly denied the involvement of foreign elements in the May 7 arson attacks in border villages of Kamjong district.
