Kohima: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Daochier I. Imchen, who recently won the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly constituency bye-election in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district, was sworn in as a member of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly during a ceremony held at the Speaker’s Chamber of the Assembly in Kohima on Thursday.
The oath of office was administered by Speaker Sharingain Longkumer in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, Parliamentary Affairs Minister K. G. Kenye, Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources A. Pangjung Jamir, and MLAs Achumbemo Kikon and Nuklutoshi.
Imchen won the Koridang by-election by a margin of 3,123 votes. According to the official Return of Election, he secured 7,317 votes, defeating Independent candidate Toshikaba, who polled 4,194 votes.
Other candidates in the fray included Imliwapang with 3,633 votes and I. Abenjang with 3,219 votes. Imchatoba Imchen and T. Chalukumba Ao received 147 and 144 votes respectively.

Out of 22,506 registered electors, a total of 18,745 votes were cast, recording a voter turnout of 82.21 per cent. Of these, 18,654 votes were declared valid, while 48 voters opted for NOTA and 43 votes were rejected.
The by-election was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA and Daochier’s father Imkong L. Imchen in November last year. Polling was conducted peacefully on April 9, 2026, with strong voter participation across the constituency.
