Aizawl: The All Women Police Station Aizawl has registered a human trafficking case following allegations that several Mizo women were lured to work at a spa in Rudrapur and were allegedly forced into sexual exploitation.
According to police sources, an FIR was lodged on May 1, 2026, by a Mizo woman who alleged that she and her younger sister had travelled to Rudrapur in October 2025 after being promised jobs at Beauty Queen Salon & Spa with a monthly salary of Rs. 20,000. Their travel expenses were reportedly arranged by the spa owner.
However, upon reaching the workplace, the women were allegedly informed that they would be required to provide “extra services” involving sexual acts in order to earn wages. The complaint further alleged that they were forced to entertain between three and nine customers daily and were allegedly made intoxicated with alcohol and other substances against their will before meeting clients.
The FIR stated that despite being promised salaries, the women were not paid and deductions were continuously made in the name of food, accommodation, and travel expenses. They were allegedly given only Rs. 500 per month for personal use.
The complainant also alleged that attempts to leave the establishment were prevented by the operators, who reportedly locked the premises to stop them from escaping. However, on April 4, 2026, the women allegedly managed to flee after breaking open the lock using iron rods and other tools. They returned to Aizawl on April 7 and subsequently filed the FIR.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police said the SDPO of Aizawl South was assigned to investigate the case, while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also constituted for an intensive probe.
Police further stated that information was received indicating that more Mizo women were still trapped in the alleged trafficking network. Acting on this, a joint team from Mizoram Police and the Women and Child Development Department travelled to Rudrapur on May 4.
On May 5, the team, along with Rudrapur Police, conducted a raid at Beauty Salon & Spa and rescued five Mizo women, including two minors. Another case was reportedly registered at the local police station in Rudrapur, and six persons allegedly linked to the trafficking operation were arrested.
Those arrested reportedly include the alleged mastermind and spa owner, a non-Mizo individual, along with a Mizo woman believed to be an accomplice and another relative allegedly involved in the operation.
The rescued women have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee in Rudrapur and are currently receiving care and counselling.
Mizoram Police said efforts are underway, in coordination with the Women and Child Development Department, to safely bring the rescued women back to Mizoram. Authorities also said all necessary legal action would be pursued against those involved in the alleged trafficking racket.
