Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued an eight-day weather update, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across the state from July 16 to 23, 2025.
According to the NSDMA, districts including Mon, Tseminyu, Niuland, Dimapur, and Kohima are likely to witness heavy rain and thunderstorms between July 16 and 21. The remaining districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, which may intensify during this period.
In view of the forecast, the NSDMA has urged residents to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds, which could disrupt communication and connectivity.
With high precipitation expected in the hill regions, lowland and foothill districts such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli have been identified as particularly vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods.
The NSDMA has advised residents in low-lying areas to secure valuable documents and items in safe lockers, evacuate if advised by authorities, watch out for gas leaks, avoid consuming food that may have come in contact with floodwater, avoid entering or driving through flooded areas, disconnect electrical appliances and keep them above ground level, boil drinking water or use chlorinated water, and stay alert for open drains or flood channels.
The NSDMA has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any untoward incidents. All District Disaster Management Authorities and related departments have been asked to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.
