Dimapur: In a bid to tackle the growing menace of unlawful activities along the highway, the Office of the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Seithekema, under Chümoukedima district of Nagaland, has issued a directive targeting unauthorized operations on leased lands falling within village jurisdictions.
According to the order issued by Er. Seyiekhrietuo Solo, EAC of Seithekema, it has come to the attention of the administration that certain landowners have leased their land to private individuals who are allegedly using the properties for illegal purposes and “unwanted activities.”
“Whereas it has come to the notice of this office that landowners in certain villages have leased out their land to various individuals who are now carrying out unwanted activities on such properties, especially along the highway,” the order stated.
One of the major concerns highlighted in the order is the establishment of illegal shops selling alcohol and other intoxicants on these leased plots. Reports indicate that such operations have raised serious alarm among both the local population and law enforcement authorities. “Reports have been received that illegal shops selling alcohol and other intoxicants have been set up on such properties taken on lease,” it said.
In addition to illegal sales, the administration noted multiple public complaints regarding disturbances caused by gatherings at these locations, particularly during night hours. These gatherings are reportedly creating public nuisances and raising safety concerns due to their proximity to the highway.
“There are numerous complaints that such sites have become a source of disturbance to the general public, and the gathering of people at night on such sites by the highway is endangering public safety as well,” the order further stated.
In response, the EAC has directed all Village Councils and Gaon Buras (GBs) within Seithekema’s jurisdiction to identify such problematic sites in their respective villages. They have also been instructed to engage with the concerned landowners to ensure necessary actions are initiated promptly.
“All Village Councils and GBs are hereby directed to identify the aforementioned sites within your respective villages and take up the matter with the concerned landowners at the earliest for further necessary action,” the directive concluded.
