Dimapur: Nineteen organisations, including civil society groups and Dimapur-based youth bodies, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group, demanding the arrest of those involved in the October 10 abduction and extortion case of two members of the Diphupar Ao Youth Forum.
During an emergency consultative meeting held at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur on Saturday, the groups warned of further action if the culprits are not apprehended within the stipulated time.
This ultimatum comes after the expiry of the 48-hour deadline given to the police department to apprehend the culprits, which ended at 4 PM on Saturday, October 12.
Following a more than three-hour emergency consultative meeting that extended from the afternoon into the evening, the organisations adopted five key resolutions addressing regional concerns.
Addressing a press meet on behalf of all the organisations, Tia Longchar, president of the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation, informed that the house resolved to establish an interim Dimapur-based youth tribal body until a full-fledged youth organisation is formed in consultation with Dimapur-based tribal apex bodies.
He also noted that the house expressed full support for the creation of a Nagaland-based youth organisation, as previously decided during a public rally held in Dimapur on August 6.
Additionally, the organisations demanded the installation of CCTV cameras across Dimapur to enhance security measures.
The house further demanded the removal of designated camps from public areas at the earliest.
The gathering also reaffirmed their support for the “One Government, One Tax” principle advocated by the Naga Council Dimapur.
The participants collectively decided to submit a representation to the chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group, seeking intervention to arrest members of the NSCN (K-Niki) allegedly involved in the October 10 abduction and extortion case.
A 48-hour deadline has been given to the chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group to apprehend the culprits.
