Kohima: In a bid to address industry challenges and public interest, the Nagaland government has announced a temporary relaxation of the ban on single-use plastics and plastic bottles under one litre, extending the deadline until November 30, 2024.

Under this relaxation, retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers using single-use plastics or plastic bottles below one litre must dispose of their existing stocks within the specified period.

Manufacturers and suppliers have been encouraged to implement effective measures for the collection and disposal of waste plastic bottles during this time.

A government update informed that the Federation of Nagaland Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturer Association (FNPMA) will implement a proposed buy-back scheme for plastic bottles.

Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with disseminating this information to local bodies and village authorities, ensuring strict compliance and safe disposal of waste plastics in their respective jurisdictions.

Earlier in July, the government reiterated banning single-use plastics, highlighting the pressing need for sustainable practices to protect the environment and public health.
