Dimapur: Nagaland’s own Paralympic hero, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, was greeted with a rapturous reception at Dimapur airport on Thursday.
The grand homecoming, organised by the Western Sumi Hoho along with various frontal organisations, civil societies, NGOs, CNTC, tribal Hohos, student bodies, and numerous supporters, marked a significant celebration of Sema’s historic achievement.
Hokato Hotozhe Sema, hailing from P Vihoto Village in Aghunaqa area, Niuland, made history by clinching a bronze medal in the Men’s F57 shotput event at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. His achievement has brought pride to Nagaland, placing it firmly on the international sports map.
Upon his arrival, Sema was met with an outpouring of appreciation from a diverse crowd that came together to honor his remarkable dedication and hard work.
Hokato Hotozhe Sema, in his brief address, expressed that he was deeply moved by the grand welcome and extended his heartfelt thanks to everyone for their warm reception and unwavering support.
He recounted his journey, revealing that his primary goal had always been to win a medal for Nagaland, following in the footsteps of other northeastern states that have achieved similar honors.

Sema shared the challenges he faced leading up to the Paris Paralympics, including a debilitating fever and injuries that nearly sidelined his participation. However, his unwavering determination and the encouragement from his community fueled his resolve. Despite the setbacks, his goal to bring a medal back to Nagaland, was achieved.
