Nagaland: Second edition of Peren District Football League underway

Kohima: The 2nd Edition of the Peren District Football League (PDFL) 2024, organised by the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) in collaboration with the New Jalukie Super League, kicked off to a grand start at the New Jalukie Local Ground.

The tournament which started on August 1, under the theme “Fostering Brotherhood, Nurturing Football,” will span a month.

The opening ceremony was graced by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, as the Special Guest. In his address, Sekhose praised Peren District for its abundance of football talent, noting that it has produced high-caliber players thanks to the relentless efforts of both district leaders and the athletes themselves. He commended the PDFA for organising the grand league, acknowledging the challenges involved in such an endeavor.

Sekhose also highlighted the government’s focus on promoting sports across Nagaland, including the provision of sports infrastructure and projects in various districts.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to promoting sports without gender or physical discrimination and encouraged parents to support their talented children in participating in tournaments and training camps, aiming to showcase their skills on the global stage in the future.

Eight clubs are participating in this year’s league: Puiteing FC, Kuki FC, Jalukie Falcons FC, Benreu FC, Lekie Mtei FC, Ngaulong NYO FC, Nchangram Lun FC, and Kingdom Stewards FC. The inaugural match saw defending champions Puiteing FC secure a 5-2 victory over Kuki FC.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports; K Neibou Sekhose, President of Nagaland Football Association; Roko Angami, President of Nagaland Football Coaches Association; T.L Kiusumong Tikhir, ADC Jalukie; and Asekho Talie, DSO Peren.

The ceremony also featured the hoisting of the PDFA flag, the launch of the PDFA website by the Special Guest, a spotlight performance by LM Higher Secondary School, a welcome address by PDFA President Raithu Newmai, and the singing of the PDFA Anthem by Nangkamlak Pame and Isile Hegeu.
