Kohima: World Malaria Day was observed across various districts of Nagaland, emphasising the theme “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world.”
In Kohima, the event took place at the Secretariat Conference Hall, where Principal Director cum Mission Director of NHM, DH&FW, Dr E Motsuthung Patton, commended India’s efforts in reducing malaria-related mortality rates and outlined the country’s objectives to eliminate malaria by 2030.
He stressed the impact of malaria on vulnerable populations, including children under five, migrant workers, refugees, and indigenous communities. The program also recognised the contributions of health workers, ASHAs, and surveillance workers, with two individuals from Kohima district receiving awards for their exceptional performance in malaria surveillance and prevention.
Similarly, in Dimapur, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang emphasised the importance of equitable access to healthcare and global collaboration in malaria eradication efforts.
He highlighted the persistent challenge posed by malaria and urged for concerted action to address health disparities, especially in rural areas. Other speakers highlighted the significance of mosquito control measures and the need for public awareness campaigns to combat malaria effectively.

Meanwhile, Mon District and Tuensang also commemorated World Malaria Day with various activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting community engagement in malaria prevention.
Officials and community leaders highlighted the importance of sanitation, vector control, and community mobilisation in the fight against malaria. Recognition was also given to exemplary ASHAs and surveillance workers for their dedication and contributions to malaria control efforts.
