Dimapur: The highly anticipated campaign rally organised by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in Dimapur proceeded as planned today, albeit without the presence of Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of AICC, who was scheduled to address the gathering.
Kharge’s absence was attributed to a sudden onset of fever, as confirmed by party officials. Consequently, Randeep Surjewala, the General Secretary of AICC, took charge of leading the rally in support of Supongmeren Jamir, the Congress’s candidate from Nagaland for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The rally, held at the Super Market area in Dimapur, witnessed a notable turnout, with more than 2500 individuals in attendance, predominantly supporters of the Congress party.
Joel Naga, president of the Rising People’s Party (RPP), also addressed the gathering, reaffirming the RPP’s official endorsement of the Congress’s candidate, a decision formalised last month.
Additionally, Girish Chodankar, the AICC in-charge of Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim, and Tripura, delivered a speech at the event.

The voting for Nagaland’s single Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for Friday, April 19, featuring contenders from the NDPP-BJP led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Dr Chumben Murry, who enjoys the backing of all 60 MLAs, and independent candidate Huyithung Tungoe Lotha.
Despite Kharge’s absence, the Congress rally in Dimapur remained a significant event, showcasing the party’s active engagement in the electoral process as they compete for support in the forthcoming elections.
