Guwahati: The Congress, on Monday, raised serious allegations against the Nagaland government, accusing them of orchestrating potential booth capturing in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a press conference held at Congress Bhavan, Girish Chodankar, the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim & Tripura, expressed confidence in Congress’s prospects, asserting that the party is set to form the government at the Centre.
He claimed that there is a growing discontent among the populace, even within the BJP alliance, citing dissatisfaction with the current government’s performance.
Chodankar alleged that the ruling government, out of desperation, may resort to illegal tactics like booth capturing to influence the election outcome. He cited recent incidents and insider information suggesting a premeditated plan by the government to manipulate polling booths.
Highlighting concerns over the impartiality of the election process, Chodankar called upon the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a free and fair election. He urged the CEO to take stringent measures to prevent booth capturing, including the installation of CCTV cameras monitored by the ECI.
The areas flagged by the Congress for potential booth capturing include Dimapur, Ghaspani, Kohima Town, Northern Angami, Phek, Meluri, Tyui, Wokha, and Jangpetkong constituencies.

Khriedi Theünuo, vice president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), reiterated Congress’s commitment to secularism and extended invitations to NGOs and church organizations to participate in the rally.
Meanwhile, NPCC submitted a letter to the CEO on Monday, requesting measures to prevent booth capturing on polling day. The letter cited reports of preparations by NDPP-BJP alliance supporters to engage in booth capturing and urged the CEO’s office to ensure a fair electoral process.
