Kohima: Nagaland Police, on Tuesday, disclosed additional information regarding the recent apprehension of a notorious drug kingpin as part of their intensified efforts against narcotics trafficking.
The arrested individual, identified as Bahar Uddin, was a prime target in an ongoing investigation into a criminal case related to narcotics trafficking. The Nagaland Police revealed that he was successfully apprehended from Sonitpur, Assam, along with two other suspects apprehended from Dimapur, Nagaland, and Imphal, Manipur.
Bahar Uddin, considered a major player in the illicit drug trade in the Northeast, was primarily operating from Dimapur, Nagaland. His network extended to Manipur, with connections for procuring and trafficking narcotics, particularly Ganja and Sunflower/Shanflower (Heroin).
Multiple cases against him had been registered across Nagaland and other parts of the country by various law enforcement agencies.
Following his arrest, Nagaland Police conducted extensive searches in Dimapur, seizing a significant amount of incriminating evidence. This evidence included documents, bank-related materials, passbooks, multiple SIM cards under fictitious names, and mobile handsets.
Investigations have revealed that Bahar Uddin had been actively involved in the narcotics trade for several years, with his recent activities indicating procurement and trafficking of over 800 soap cases of Sunflower/Shanflower (Heroin) from suppliers in Manipur over the past 6-10 months. Additionally, he has a long-standing involvement in the Ganja business dating back to 1995.
Nagaland Police emphasised their commitment to thoroughly investigate Bahar Uddin’s role in trafficking narcotics, both in previous cases and ongoing operations. They also expressed their gratitude to various tribal and civil society organisations for their active cooperation and assistance in combating drug trafficking.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. They reiterated the severity of offenses related to drug possession, trafficking, and aiding traffickers, urging the public to refrain from engaging in such activities and cooperate with law enforcement efforts.
The revelation of more information comes after the Rising People’s Party (RPP) had urged the state police to hand over the case to the NIA in order to avoid any political influence.
