Nagaland Police probe leads to arrest of Northeast drug kingpin, 2 aides

Kohima: In a significant stride in the ongoing War Against Drugs campaign led by the Nagaland government, a major breakthrough has been achieved with the arrest of Baharudin, a narcotics drug trafficking kingpin of the Northeast.

The operation, conducted over several months, saw close coordination between Nagaland Police and Assam Police, culminating in the apprehension of Baharudin from Sonitpur, Assam.

Additionally, two of his associates were also arrested, one from Dimapur and another from Imphal.

“Baharudin is wanted in multiple known cases registered across the region and has been running a major drug network spread over many states, and involved in financing, procuring transportation and sale of sunflower, ganja and other dangerous drugs,” Nagaland Police said in a statement.

According to the state police, Baharudin had been using multiple aliases, multiple identities, multiple phone numbers and numerous hideouts to carry on the trafficking in narcotics.

Numerous people have been associated with him in the conspiracies to traffic banned substances like ganja, brown sugar, and so on, in the region. The drug kingpin has tried to evade the law enforcement agencies for many years.

“Drug Traffickers have been creating havoc in the families across the state of late with large number of youth falling victims to drug abuse. Nagaland Police request people to continue to report drug sellers and traffickers to Police and also desist from providing support of any kind to these elements spreading toxin in the society,” the state police urged.

As the strict provisions of the NDPS Act provide for forfeiture of properties acquired from the profits of drug trade, the police cautioned people of purchasing such property from drug dealers as these properties are fit to be forfeited in due course of time.
