Kohima: In a unanimous and unopposed decision, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator S Toiho Yeptho was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Monday.
Addressing the first day of the fourth session of the 14th NLA, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio said that despite being a newcomer to the political arena, Yeptho’s leadership qualities, coupled with his successful ventures in business and agriculture, have garnered him widespread recognition.
Having recently secured a comfortable mandate in the elections, Rio said that Toiho Yeptho’s election to the position of deputy speaker underscores the confidence reposed in him by his fellow members of the House. He expressed gratitude towards the members for their cooperation in electing the Deputy Speaker unanimously.
As he assumes his new role, Toiho Yeptho reassured his commitment to uphold the high standards of decency and decorum set by the predecessors throughout the Nagaland Assembly’s six-decade history.
He pledged to carry out his duties with integrity and impartiality, while also preserving the House’s rich traditions.
