Kohima: In a recent development, a Nagaland Police team successfully apprehended two individuals from Nagpur, Maharashtra, suspected of defrauding a doctor from Nagaland to the tune of Rs 55 lakh.
The accused, identified as Amul Prakash Tong (40) and Prateek Jairam Nikhade (35), both residents of Nagpur, were allegedly involved in a scheme revolving around the sale of sports equipment.
As per reports, the duo operated a sports equipment and furniture sales office in Nagpur.
The incident dates back to 2021 when a doctor from Dimapur expressed interest in purchasing materials for a game zone venture.
Subsequently, a deal was struck between the doctor and the accused, with the former paying Rs 55 lakh upfront for the supplies. However, the promised materials were never delivered, leading the doctor to lodge a complaint with the Dimapur Police.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Dimapur Police initiated an investigation, resulting in the registration of a fraud case against Tong and Nikhade.
With the cooperation of the Nagpur Police, the suspects were apprehended on Saturday. Following their arrest, the duo was granted transit remand to the Nagaland Police by the court.
