Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while speaking at the inauguration of Sechüma Mechü Zie (playground), Sechüma approach road, and the foundation laying for Mera-Sechü-Rau complex at Sechü (Zubza) in Kohima on Saturday, highlighted the significance of unity and peace for the progress of the state.
The chief minister emphasised the collective longing for peace among the Naga people and even acknowledged the support extended by elected members, regardless of their political affiliations, towards an opposition-less government to facilitate solutions.
Rio underscored the urgent need for development in the state and commended the elected members for coming together to address this need. Despite challenges posed by the Naga political issue in the past, he noted that progress was gradually picking up in recent years due to relative peace.
The Chief Minister expressed optimism that a peaceful environment would enhance productivity and contribute to a better economy. He urged village leaders to be united, honest, and committed to utilising development funds effectively for the progress of the people.
Rio praised the village residents for their contributions, particularly in providing land for essential infrastructures like the playground. He emphasised the role of such facilities in nurturing the youth and promoting excellence in games and sports.
Observing a shift away from the war culture of the past, Rio highlighted the unifying power of sports. He encouraged the gathered youth to lead obedient lives, trust in God, and work hard to excel in their chosen disciplines. Rio announced upcoming sports events in the state, including the Nagaland Olympic and the North East Olympic, aiming to nurture players with medal prospects for the National Games to be hosted in Nagaland.
Acknowledging the uniqueness of Naga culture and festivals celebrated collectively through the Hornbill festival, he said the festival has now garnered the attention of the international community.
Rio commended the Western Angami constituency for its historical contributions, including producing pioneers and this time the first woman legislator and minister in the state.
The event included the unveiling of a monolith for the new playground and the laying of the foundation stone for the Mera-Sechü-Rau Seyie Complex site at Sechü (Zubza).
Minister of Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, expressed happiness over the village’s infrastructural developments and emphasised the role of the new playground in nurturing the youth.

Kruse informed the audience about various schemes aimed at empowering youth, especially women, to become independent and self-reliant. She urged the youth to be independent-minded, start their businesses, and not solely depend on government jobs.
The program concluded with various presentations, including special numbers by the Sechüma Youth Organisation.
