Kohima: Advisor for School Education, Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Saturday urged the need for collective efforts to rebuild the trust in government schools.
He was addressing a consultative meet at the NAPO hall, Chiephobozou, on Saturday, involving department officials, village councils, school management committees, village student bodies, and teachers from the 11-Northern Angami Assembly Constituency.
The first-time legislator said that government schools have more qualified teachers compared to private institutions in the state. He therefore urged the need to gain the trust of the community to enroll their students in government schools.
In this regard, he suggested the need for the department, teachers and the village leaders to make a collective effort.
He also urged the local community to comprehend the challenges faced by teachers and stressed the importance of collaboration to enhance infrastructure.
Yhome advocated for community support in providing accommodation and safety for teachers, suggesting the involvement of churches, councils, and CSOs. Public infrastructure development was also proposed to ensure teachers have access to suitable accommodation. Despite the proximity to Kohima, he acknowledged the challenges faced by teachers.
During the meeting, he said that education should be made more accessible, further hinting that the government is mulling the concept of open schools.
During the meeting, Commissioner and Secretary of School education & SCERT, Kevilenuo Angami, underscored the crucial role of local communities in fortifying government schools. She informed that department, is working on rationalising teachers across the state.
Angami also highlighted that teachers attachment to VIPs, as per a court standing order, is not legal. In case of such issues, she urged the gathering to notify the department for necessary action.

She pointed out that as the Village Development Board (VDB) also receives some fund to cover school development, she urged the village councils and VDBs to oversee essential amenities such as water and electricity in the schools.
The consultative meeting focused on fostering collaboration between various stakeholders to address challenges, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall education system in the 11-Northern Angami Assembly Constituency.
